Editorial Reviews:

The artefacts and decor within the most beautiful historic private homes in Paris are revealed in this book. The doors are thrown open on a number of remarkable houses, including those of Baron Guy de Rothschild, Hubert de Givenchy, the Duchesse de Guermantes, the Comte et Comtesse d'Ornano, the fabled salons of the Duchesse de Berry aand Madame de Stael as well as the residence of the British Ambassador, known as the Hotel de Harost.

Summary: Also Published As THE FINEST HOUSES OF PARIS
Comment: Note that this book is also published as THE FINEST HOUSES OF PARIS and my copy even has the same image on the book cover but with the different title. If you are interested, order the less expensive copy.

While some of the photos lack crisp depth of field, and some focus on less than relative details, there is much information available for those who search for it. In a city of fine houses, these are the finest still in private occupancy. The Hotel Lambert, decorated by Renzo Mongiardino starting in the mid-1970s for Guy and Marie-Helene de Rothschild, is one of the finest residences anywhere. In addition to another house decorated by Mongiardino, there is one decorated by Henri Samuel and some limited views of the home of Hubert Givenchy. Each house is worthy of its own book, so there may be some frustration by readers who want to see more.

Despite its obvious flaws, this book will be interesting for those who admire traditional, formal residential interior design and architecture.

Comment: I'm an interior designer and this is my favorite book for inspiration. I have almost every significant book on the topic of decorating. This book is extremely detail oriented and it is truly of the purist French design. It is not America's idea of French flea market decorating as it is a reflection of an author who truly had amazing connections to enter these fabulous homes. It is definitely not Parisian flea market decorating but instead it is exemplifies decoration with no limitations in budget.
