Summary: watch out for the turkeys
Comment: I tried out this guide for sourcing places to stay in London as well as the companion guide for Paris.It was somewhat of a disaster because the author's standards appear to fall below my minimum standards for hotel accomodations. While she tried to set expectations for room size and cleanliness, both places we rented were extremely small and the one in London surprizingly dingy and dirty.
Unfortunately, it is hard to get in sync with the author's standards just by reading her recommendations and suggetions.
I might use this guide again but would gravitate toward the higher priced locations.
Also, we found that standard hotels these days are offering very competative rates for much nicer rooms, beds, services, etc. Somehow, the price for "quaintness" of her cheap sleep place seems high when compared to the standard (if somewhat boring) hotel accomodation.
The other shortcoming I found is the lack of email contacts in the listings. Other guides seem to have this information readily available. Using email sure beats using a fax or phoning overseas--especially when dealing in a foreign language as we were with Paris sites.
